Welcome to Corner Canyon Anatomy
In this advanced human anatomy and physiology course, you will learn an overview of the complexities of the human body. We start with some basic anatomical terminology that you will frequently use throughout the class. We will then spend a few days exploring cells and human tissues. The next 4 weeks will be spent learning about the skeletal and muscular systems of the human body. You will learn names of and types of bones, names of bony landmarks where muscles attach, names and actions of the major muscles, and the physiology of a muscle contraction. The highlight of the course will follow, a 4 week cat dissection. The cat is a model organism for learning muscles as many of their muscle groups are similar to that of humans. We will also look at major blood vessels, nerves, and other organs in the cat. Between Thanksgiving and the end of the semester, we will dive deeper into the physiology of the circulatory and nervous systems. We will dissect a sheep heart, sheep brain, and cow eye to better understand the structures and functions of these major organs.
